Construction is progressing steadily, and we are excited to welcome the public back once the work is complete. We are targeting October 2026. This is an ambitious timeline, brought forward from the original May 2027 plan, and the team is working hard to achieve it.
Accessibility has been a key part of the redevelopment plans. The Pavilion will be fully accessible, including wheelchair access to the upper level and public viewing platform. Our goal is to make the Pavilion a place where no one feels excluded, ensuring all members of the community can enjoy it.
The final rating is still being determined, as multiple factors contribute. Our target is over 90% of the New Building Standard (NBS). This work ensures that the building remains a safe, secure, and long-lasting space for the community to enjoy well into the future.
Yes! The Pavilion is being designed as a community space first and foremost. The platform will have additional seating and can be reached via two stairways, a ramp, and a lift located within the restaurant, which remains open to the public.

Absolutely. The upper deck has been designed with flexibility in mind, making it a beautiful setting for community gatherings, small celebrations, and cultural events. The space will provide Wellingtonians with a new way to enjoy and connect with the Pavilion, all while overlooking the harbour.
